Waste-to-methanol is assembling a modular pilot stack
East Asia — Japan, with Australian pilot and European demand analogues

The signal
Technology suppliers are beginning to combine modular waste gasification, compact methanol synthesis and early offtake structures, suggesting a possible route for smaller distributed waste-to-methanol plants rather than only very large centralized projects.
What to watch next
Integrated pilot performance across varied feedstocks, certified methanol quality, disclosed uptime and capital cost, binding offtake and a first commercial repeat unit would strengthen the thesis; pretreatment failures, contamination or uneconomic scale-up would weaken it.
